The Bird Room
My Bird Room is based on an 8' x 12' ship-lap shed. Mounted on a concrete base with a single round of engineering bricks to keep the wooden base away from any water run off.
Inside is a full length 12' flight set against the windows, opposite a wall of 16 breeding cages. Each cage measuring 24" wide, 18" high and 18" deep.
I have recently added the outside flight, which for the birds at the moment seems just a little too cold.
The light is switched on and off by a timer to simulate as much day time as possible, but still giving the birds at least 8 hours rest at night. The lamp colour temperature is 6500 degrees kelvin which has a high output at the UV end of the spectrum. Budgies see very well in ultra violet and it is very important for attracting and keeping a mate.
There is also a thermostatically controlled heater unit which makes sure the temperature never drops below 15 degrees celcius.
