Liam McGuinness - Beginner Budgerigar Breeder

Although in the 1970s I had a few dozen budgies, I didn't start breeding properly until September 2007. I quickly got hooked and decided to breed with a view to showing my birds within a couple of years.
Before I built my aviary I bred some birds indoors and spent some time perfecting my infra red nest box camera system. I was just too interested in learning about what went on inside the box before I started breeding in larger numbers.
I found it difficult to get hold of good birds to begin with and found breeders reluctant to sell quality stock to a beginner. However I eventually became friends with Jerry Donovan and Colin Smith who have provided me with some of my best birds to date.
I started to build my shed in the winter of 07/08 and began to breed in April with the aid of my cameras and some friendly advice.

I had my first show this weekend at Harston in Cambridgeshire. I managed to get best any/age bird for my class with this Olive Green Hen. She was rung in December so only narrowly missed being an 09 bird. Next Show Sunday 21st June.
